Welcome to the official website of Roberto Gerhard (1896-1970) one of the most individual and significant composers of the twentieth century.

Gerhard was by nature a cosmopolitan artist and an explorer. His music embraces the folk-culture of his native Catalonia, the vivid colours and lyricism of late romantic music, the twelve-tone techniques of Schoenberg and makes forays into electronic music. His impressive output includes an opera, four symphonies, several ballets, choral works, and a wide range of chamber music and songs.

This website, produced with the assistance of the Gerhard Estate, is divided into 16 sections. These offer information about Gerhard's life, his music, his writings and much else.

Following upon the renewed interest in his work, stimulated by the celebrations of the centenary of his birth, in 1996, it should enable to both aficionados and those new to Gerhard to achieve an overview of his achievement and to discover more about individual aspects of his life and work.

The site is under construction, so watch out for new features all the time.
