List of Musical Compositions
Most of Tippett's compositions exist in two manuscript versions: a preliminary pencil score and a 'final' copy in ink. The composer abandoned this procedure only during the composition of The Mask of Time, when access to photocopiers made the labour of producing a neat hand-copied version in ink unnecessary. Apart from a few items, acquired for other collections, or missing, the manuscripts of Tippett's published works, either complete or incomplete, are all at the British Library. Likewise, his unpublished works are held there and are available for inspection, but not for publication or performance until 50 years after his death. Tippett's compositional notebooks and sketches can also be inspected at the British Library. In the list given below, it can be assumed that, unless otherwise indicated, the manuscripts are held in the British Library.
