Tippett and the Piano
The first half of 2004 will be notable for four performances of Tippett's Piano Concerto in Germany. They will feature Steven Osborne as soloist and the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker conducted by Graham Jackson. Two take place at the Seindenweberhaus Krefeld, on May 25 and 28; the other two are at the Konzertsaal Theater, Münchengladbach on May 26 and the Kaiser Friderich-Halle, Münchengladbach the following night. Later in 2004, Steven Osborne will record the Piano Concerto and all four Piano Sonatas for Hyperion.
Last year, in the Wettingen Chamber Concerts series, Oliver Schnyder played the Second Piano Sonata: and he will play the work again on February 26 at the Kleiner Saal in the Zürich Tonhalle.

A Child of Our Time
A Child of Our Time now crops up regularly on the German concert scene, in performances involving both professionals and amateurs. The oratorio will be given twice in February by the Tübingen University Orchestra and Choir, joined by the Camerata Vocalis. Their first performance takes place at the Stiftskirche, Stuttgart on February 6; the second is at the Festsaalder Neuen Aula at Tübingen University. The conductor will be Tobias Keller. Shortly afterwards, on February 14,, Simon Halsey conducts the spirituals from the oratorio in a concert by the Berlin Radio Choir at the Grosser Saal in the Berlin Konzerthaus.
In the UK, the following month, Simon Wright conducts a performance of the oratorio with the Leeds Festival Chorus and BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. This takes place on March 20 at Leeds Town Hall.
The Lindsays in Vienna
On January 13, the Lindsay Quartet play Tippett's String Quartet no. 2 in a recital at the Brahms-Saal at the Musikverein, Vienna.
Fantasia Concertante on a theme of Corelli
Most string orchestras seem to feel that if it's worth playing the Fantasia Concertante on a theme of Corelli once, then it's worth playing several times. Thus, in the Netherlands in February, the Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam will be giving four performances, conducted by Peter Oundjian. The dates and locations are as follows:
